The Motor City Machine Guns beat Team 3D in 4:50. The announcers started the match by pondering what Team 3D must be thinking about Hulk Hogan coming in. Taz pointed out that Devon was wearing a knee brace and said he suffered an injury at Bound For Glory.

At 2:25, Brother Ray hit the urinage that injured Sabin. They replayed it several times and pointed out that it was obvious Sabin was injured. Tenay said it was hard to watch (after they showed it like 200 times). Sabin was shown rolling to the corner and tagging in his partner. The match continued while trainers tended to Sabin in the corner.

Late in the match, Sabin locked Devon in a half-crab. Devon slammed his hand down on the mat in pain. The referee called for the bell. Shelley went right to his corner to check on Sabin…

Powell’s POV: Wow, nasty looking spot. Sabin is lucky to walk away without serious injury. It looked like Ray dropped Sabin on the back of his head when he hit the urinage (a/k/a Rock Bottom). I believe they cut a chuck of footage out because Sabin was unable to tag out right away.

Lauren interviewed The Motor City Machine Guns in the backstage area. Chris Sabin talked about the smell of progress in TNA and that the Machine Gun movement had begun. He said tonight was the first ever tag team Ultimate X match on prime time TV. He said Lethal Consequences might have a slight advantage since they didn’t compete twice on Sunday, but still guaranteed victory for the Guns. Alex Shelley said he was hit in the throat during their last Ultimate X match, so he asked viewers to turn up the volume because he couldn’t turn up his larynx. He said they’re going to make TNA take notice of them.

The Motor City Machine Guns defeated Lethal Consequences in an Ultimate X match in 7:24 to earn shot at the TNA Tag Titles. The red “X” symbol was hanging from the center of the wires where the title belt would normally be.

[Q7] They set up the big Tower of Doom spot in the corner at 3:30, but Lethal snuck away and made a play for the symbol. Sabin caught him and knocked him off the wire. The crowd reacted to the nonstop action by chanting “TNA.” The teams took turns hitting double team moves. Sabin came very close to getting the symbol, but Lethal ran in from ringside and stopped him at the last moment.

The Guns teamed up to hit a Sliced Bread combo move on Lethal in the corner. Shelley came up holding his knee in pain. Shelley climbed the wire and went for the symbol. Creed came up after him, but Sabin got the symbol before Creed could stop him. The Guns will challenge the winners of the tag title cage match at Turning Point.

October 22nd BACKSTAGE OUTBURST FOLLOWING CHRIS SABIN INJURY AT TNA TAPING

Kevin Nash had a huge outburst backstage at tonight’s TNA Impact taping following Chris Sabin’s injury. Following the match, Nash was screaming to whoever would listen that the production of the match should have been halted because of Sabin’s injury and was loudly complaining that the company continued on with the match when it was obvious Sabin had injured his neck.

TNA sources also confirmed that when Nash went out before the crowd and made reference to the incident and that the company should have halted the match, he was going into business for himself and shooting. It wasn’t something scripted for him or added to his promo at the last second by TNA creative. I suspect those comments will be edited off the 10/29 Impact broadcast.

One rumor making the rounds is that Nash was screaming at Team 3D for the situation, but according to witnesses I spoke to, there isn’t anything to that. I was told Nash wasn’t yelling at 3D or any other talents during his tirade but more screaming and “throwing a tantrum to anyone in ear shot” about the production truck not being responsible to the wrestlers.

As one source noted about that story, had Nash been complaining about 3D continuing the match and “not protecting Sabin” following the injury, there would be a lot of irony there as when Nash blew out his quadriceps during a July 2002 episode of Monday Night Raw, it was Brother Ray who immediately realized something was wrong and pulled Nash to the ropes during a 10 Man tag bout.

There’s no word yet as to whether TNA management spoke to Nash following his outburst and unscripted comments on the mic.
